According to the Irish Independent, the Budget 2015 is set to restore part of the pensioners Christmas Bonus. 5 years ago the Coalition dropped the Christmas bonus which had previously cost €260 million, so this year ministers are looking to partly restore the bonus as a gesture. A full bonus would give 1.2 million social welfare recipients, including pensioners, carers and the long term unemployed and extra €188 once off payment in December.
A senior government source said “It’s no way a certainty. We would not be looking at full restoration”. Over the next few days, The Budget will be entering a crucial stage of negotiations, where the final Budget will be discussed on Friday and perfected over the weekend.
The date for Budget 2015 has been set for Tuesday October 14th 2014.
